言論自由與商業考量 Kanter透露曾與Silver談論中國議題

Enes Kanter不只在自己的國家是個爭取自由平權的發聲者，他對於中國與維吾爾族群、西藏、台灣和香港的議題也經常發言，Kanter最近接CNN)採訪時透露了在他努力解決某些政治問題的過程中，NBA是如何回應他的。
塞爾提克本賽季的第一場比賽是在麥迪遜廣場花園對紐約尼克，Kanter穿著一雙鞋邊寫著“自由西藏”的球鞋，當下有2名自稱為聯盟工作的男子走近他，並要求他脫下鞋子。

引用我記得那是我們的第一場比賽，是在麥迪遜廣場花園，我穿著‘自由西藏’的鞋子上場了。我記得快比賽前有2個人走過來對我說：“‘你必須脫鞋，我們求你了”。

儘管NBA要求Kanter必須在全國轉播的比賽中換鞋，但他沒有答應，Kanter堅稱這樣的要求違反了他的言論自由。

Kanter聲稱NBA不僅威脅他罰款，還威脅他可能會被禁賽，但他依舊沒有任何妥協想法。Kanter語帶諷刺說到，如果沒有NBA，他就不會像這樣有能力發表意見。因為每當有社會問題出現時，NBA球隊和總裁本人經常就這些問題發表聲明，甚至支持和鼓勵球員發聲。

引用“NBA讓我這樣做，因為每次當有一支NBA球隊或總裁出來發言時，他們都會鼓勵球員說出任何想談論的事情。我們讓球員可以自由談論全世界發生的所有不公正現象，以及各地侵犯人權的行為，所以基本上算是他們告訴我要這樣做。”

Kanter之後曾與聯盟主席Adam Silver坐下來談論這個議題，他問聯盟是否支持他對於中國的強硬立場。雖然Silver口頭上表示支持，但Kanter承認，根據聯盟過往紀錄與缺乏行動，他並不完全相信這個回應。
