Exclusive - Cascarino warns Spurs: Chelsea will not give up on Modric

Tony Cascarino has warned Tottenham his former club Chelsea will not give up on Luka Modric until they get their man.

Chelsea have had bids of £23million and £27million knocked back for Modric, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insisting the Croatian playmaker is not for sale.

But Cascarino claims the Blues will not be put off by Levy’s stance, as Andre Villas-Boas sees Modric as crucial to how he wants his side to play next season.

“The playmaker role is a position that I really felt was a neccessity towards the end of the season because I don’t think Chelsea have got one of them,” said Cascarino, speaking to Goldstein and Cundy. “Obviously their number one target is Modric and they’ll keep pursuing him.

“How far will they pursue it? They will push it to the very end. We have seen many, many transfers over the last five years where players have pushed for a move and it’s gone late. They’ve pursued it because they see him as their number one target.

"There’s very few Luka Modric’s. He’s a talented guy. He's a fantastic player at finding passes and not only will [Fernando] Torres benefit but [Frank] Lampard will because Lampard will get the goals and Modric will be the creator of them. Chelsea won't let this one go."

Chelsea are also being linked with a loan move for former midfielder Scott Parker, as a replacement for the injured Michael Essien, and Cascarino believes the 30-year-old would be a good addition.

"I think it’s a good deal for everyone and that includes Scott," he added. "With the European Championships next year, Scott would desperately want to play Premier League football next year."
