Tottenham Decide To Cut Losses And Sell Luka Modric To Chelsea For £40m
Tottenham Hotspur have decided to sell midfielder Luka Modric to Chelsea because they feel the player will not put in the required effort if he stays.
The 25-year-old has been on the Blues radar all summer but Spurs have so far stood firm in their reluctance to sell him.
But the Croatia international has made the situation untenable with his actions over the last few weeks.
He refused to play in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, was ‘injured’ for the Europa League tie against Hearts and pleaded with manager Harry Redknapp not to play against Manchester City last weekend.
The Spurs boss has now run out of patience with Modric and will sell him to their London rivals for £40million.
Yossi Benayoun or Didier Drogba may be thrown into the deal as well, but it all must be completed by tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
Redknapp is fed up with Modric’s tantrums and demands and feels the saga is affecting his sqaud’s morale.
This view was echoed by club stalwart Ledley King, who hopes the matter is resolved as soon as possible.
“It’s been ongoing for the whole of the summer,” he told Sky Sports News. “As players we want him to stay, he’s a great lad.
“The sooner it’s done, either way, the better. I don’t think it (the speculation) helps at the end of the day.
“We’ve had this issue before with Berbatov. It was a similar start for us then. I don’t think it helps in any way. As players you try and get on with the job the best you can.
“We, as players, want the window to close now so we can get on with the squad that we’ve got and get on with business.”
