David Luiz tells Neymar he would love life at the Bridge
Chelsea defender David Luiz is trying to persuade Brazil team-mate Neymar to join him at Stamford Bridge.
The flamboyant Santos striker has been on Chelsea's radar for years and, although he is a target for many of the world's richest clubs, Luiz admits he has been working on his compatriot as the pair prepare for tonight's friendly against Ghana at Fulham's Craven Cottage.
Blues' assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo watched Neymar play for Brazil in Germany last month and the club will be buoyed by the knowledge that the 19-year-old is enjoying his time in the capital this week.
Luiz said: "I would definitely like Neymar in my team but it is up to him to decide where he wants to play. But I hope he signs for Chelsea.
"Neymar's getting to know London and he likes it very much. I love it here, too. It's one of the best cities in the world - all I miss is the beach."
The striker, who has six goals in 10 games for Brazil and 31 goals for Santos in 73 appearances, was linked with a move to Barcelona this weekend but would also be a target for Real Madrid, Manchester City and Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
Meanwhile, Luiz is hoping to make his first appearance of the season in tonight's hastily arranged friendly after recovering from a thigh injury that ruled him out of Chelsea's first three games.
The five-time World Cup winners were scheduled to play Egypt in Cairo tomorrow but security fears forced them to cancel the fixture and seek new opponents.
Luiz, though, believes the Black Stars will provide a tough test.
"Ghana are a big team with big players and show the growth in African football," he said.
With the match being played in London, Ramires is a surprise omission from a Brazil squad that sees the return of Ronaldinho, who has rediscovered his form since returning to his homeland to play for Flamengo.
After suffering a disappointing exit from this summer's Copa America - they missed all four penalties in a quarter-final shoot-out defeat to Paraguay - Mano Menezes's side will use tonight's match as an opportunity to move on.
Luiz added: "Winning Copa America was one of our goals but we are all focused on Ghana now so we can erase memories of the past."
Luiz has agreed a wager with Chelsea colleague and Ghana star Michael Essien, who will miss the match through injury.
"We have a bet and whoever wins gets a dinner paid for and it has to be expensive," he said.
